Till September 20: The 5th ­Annual Ashvita Short Film and Photography competition is ­accepting entries till September 20. Event host, Sathyam ­Cinemas, will screen the ­winning short films and photographs. Participants can download application forms from www.ashvita.com

Till September 20: An exhibition of paintings and sculptures by Raffic Ahmed, Nitin Utge, Pravin Utge, Sanjay Kumar and Ganesh Chougule, among other artists. (At Vinnyasa Premier Art Galery.)

Till September 22: All the senior artists of Chennai, who have been part of the Madras Art Movement in the 1960s and 70s, have put together this art show. M F Husain is also part of this show. Artist Thota Tharani’s work, which transforms something ­abstract as music into a visual ­language is also a part of this ­tradition (at the Athreyaa Art Gallery).

Till September 29: The Madras Canvas – II. Riding on the hugely successful exhibition ‘The Madras Canvas’ in August 2007, Forum Art Gallery presents ‘The Madras Canvas II’, an exhibition of paintings, sculpture, installation, ­photography and cartoon art by Chennai-based artists (at ­Forum Art Gallery).

September 20 - 28: Dussehra ­Celebration, including, Nasik Kunita (a dram dance) folk ­performers performing on all nine days; Golu display (highlighting the girl child), Karnataka cuisine; its crafts and textiles; and colourful Lam­badi embroidery. (At Dakshina Chitra).

Till October 5: An exhibition of Kolu toys: Chennapatna toys, Kondapalli toys, Ettigo­paka toys, Clay toys, Cloth toys, Marble powder toys, Wooden toys and others (at C P Art ­Centre).
