March 16: The Wolfgang Haffner Jazz Trio. Wolfgang Haffner has been among the world’s most renowned jazz drummers for years. March 30 to April 8: Exhibition on the Halfmoon Files – The Making of… Director: Philip Scheffner “There once was a man. This man came into the European war. Germany captured this man. He wishes to return to India. If God has mercy, He will make peace soon. This man will go away from here.” Mall Singh’s crackling words were heard as he spoke into the phonographic funnel on December 11, 1916 in Wunsdorf, near Berlin.

90 year later, Mall Singh is a number on an old shellac record in an archive – one amongst hundreds of voices of colonial soldiers recorded during World War I. In the exhibition “The Making of…”, the main focus lies on the so-called ‘Half Moon Camp’ in Wunsdorf near Berlin in which mostly Indian and North African ‘colonial soldiers’ were imprisoned from 1914 to 1918.

Philip Scheffner will present his work and the film The Halfmoon Files and conduct a workshop (at Max Muller Bhavan).
