a-MUSING
(By Ranjitha Ashok)

Move along there

You have to feel sorry for the guys-in-charge.

Broken in spirit, this particular branch of authority is now breaking its head trying to compose signs that even the many-headed, who show little sign of thinking and reasoning abilities while zipping all over town, will get.

Now, how are we supposed to react to this sign?!

‘No parking’….well, that makes sense, as do the vehicles parked right below the sign, which in turn explains the above-mentioned broken spirits.

But when you see a sign that says “No Parking; No Standing,” you realise opinions about the citizenry have hit an all-time low.

You assume, of course, that they mean that you cannot choose that spot to linger, renew old friendships, make new ones, or pretend that something’s gone wrong with your vehicle till that attractive sample of the human race you’ve had your eye on for a while walks by.

All very understandable, but imagine needing a sign to tell you that you shouldn’t idle in the middle of a narrow, busy road, lapsing either into deep thought, or long conversations, and generally impede traffic.

This is sad.

No wonder the guys-in-charge are reduced to over-instructing the citizenry into further mental atrophy.

Come on, Chennai, give them a break.

Show them you can think for yourselves.

Give them a sign.
