Fest fatigue

"Master, master, wake up! This is only the 20th out of 255 performances you are supposed to give this Music Season!"The 'Desi' Touch

The cry goes out: Chennai needs a break.

Seriously, the city has been going a little event-crazy for a while now, especially with all manic ‘fest-ing’ going on.

Music, dance, theatre, book launches, fashion, food... Phew!

The city needs some down time, some ordinary time... even some vapid time... why not?

So, Guys-Who-Make-Things-Happen, relax; read a good book; take five... and stop seeking out more reasons to ‘fest’... please!

Sure, Chennai’s always taken pride in being a cultural hub – blah blah – but not this much, okay?

Her citizens can’t keep dashing from venue to venue, scampering through a kaleidoscope of edifying-enlightening-enriching experiences without something coming apart drastically.

Sure, you can always stay away – but that’s just not Humankind’s way, right?

Something’s happening – must participate....that’s normal herd instinct.

No wonder the Chennaiite, after years of listening to how ‘not-happening’ this city is, is a tad bewildered by this drastic turn of ...er ...events – literally.

Perfectly understandable – dealing with an over-350-year-old (give or take) Grande Dame who has suddenly decided to kick over the traces is not easy.

So Chennai... stop buzzing around like a demented bee, and use your ‘quiet’ voice instead.

Let there be peace... or at least judicious gaps for recovery.
