Above and below: On August 4, 2025 Sujatha Shankar, Convenor, Intach Chennai Chapter gave the keynote address for ‘Honouring Madras — The Essential role of Heritage Conservation’ at SRM School of Architecture and Interior Design, Kattankulathur, Chennai. Above and below: On August 30, 2025, a ‘Heritage Training Workshop’ open to school teachers only was organised by INTACH & Kreeda. In the special training session, over 40 school teachers explored how traditional games can be effectively brought into the teaching process, while adding fun to the classroom. Vinita Sidhartha highlighted how these games can connect directly with education — and how easily subjects like mathematics, science, and even social studies could be taught through games.

On August 16, 2025, Sujatha Shankar gave a talk on ‘Madras Art Deco Architecture’ – Celebrating 100 years of Art Deco 1925-2025 at Chennai International Centre, Tagore Auditorium, R.A. Puram, Chennai. Art Deco, an extraordinary design movement with a new design vocabulary, came to be at the International Exposition in Paris in 1925 and we celebrate its Centenary in 2025, a full 100 years later, both that iconic moment and what it means for us in Madras, as our city welcomed and happily adopted the style.

On August 23, 2025, the Chennai round of the ‘INDIA HERITAGE QUIZ 2025’ was held at Sri Sankara Vidyashramam School, Thiruvanmiyur. Organised by Young INTACH, Chennai Chapter, the quizmaster was senior INTACH member Ms. Sushi Natraj, who engaged the students in her interactive style. A total of 66 teams from 20 schools took part in the preliminary round, of which five teams qualified for the Final Round.

On August 30th, 2025, Sujatha Shankar was the Chief Guest at the Madras Day Celebrations at Saveetha College of Architecture and Interior Design, Poonamallee. She addressed the students on aspects of heritage in Madras and screened the old ­documentary film, Story of Madras – The First City of Modern India, with narration by Mr. S. Muthiah, the father figure of heritage in the city, and direction by Sujatha Shankar. The film traces the city’s history, highlighting its built heritage, which ­memorialises all that Madras has contributed to the subcontinent.
