Madras Week events by Kreeda
Playing Through Madras: A Month-long Journey Across the City
August marks not only the city’s founding but also the anniversary of Kreeda’s own journey to document and revive traditional games. For over two decades, the organisation has explored how games are woven into everyday life, appearing in temples, public spaces, homes, stories and memories.
Each Monday will feature a public conversation bringing together researchers, community historians and subject experts. Alongside presentations on game documentation by Vinita Sidhartha, speakers will explore themes ranging from local heritage and neighbourhood histories to cooking traditions, urban ecology, indigenous plants, cycling culture and other enduring stories.
Rivers have historically shaped settlement patterns, neighbourhood identities, cultural practices and therefore play traditions. So, Kreeda has divided Chennai into four areas, each with a unique exhibit and conversations.
